Energy secretary seeks alternatives after administration bans Russian uranium.
The Department of Energy (DOE) issued a request for proposals, asking for input from members of the nuclear energy industry on how best to develop a domestic supply of low-enriched uranium. The U.S. was previously sourcing a large amount of the low-enriched uranium necessary for nuclear energy plants from Russia. However, on May 14, President Biden’s administration banned uranium imports from Russia due to its war with Ukraine.
“DOE is helping jumpstart uranium enrichment capacity here in the United States, which is critical to strengthening our national security and growing our domestic nuclear industry,” said Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm. “Today’s announcement underscores America’s commitment to remaining the global leader in nuclear energy for generations to come.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For discernment for U.S. energy officials as they seek to promote domestic uranium sources.
- For the energy secretary to receive God’s wisdom as she heads the department.
